Biography

I was born in August 1974. Since my childhood I have been interested in the Polar Regions and the great polar explorers. With enthusiasm I have been reading books about Amundsen, Nansen, Scott and others. Getting the possibility to travel also to these areas by myself, however, I never thought that such a dream would come true.

After completing High School, I studied in the subjects of physics, geography and mathematics for teaching at secondary schools. My personal interests are travelling (so far to Scandinavia and the Polar Regions mostly) and photography. The topics I am educated in are of high benefit for my interests.

My passion for Scandinavia began in 1997. During the summer I travelled to southern Norway with two friends. In the following years I undertook more trips to Sweden (1999), northern Scandinavia (2000, mainly to Norway) and my first winter trip in March 2002 which had been circling round the Bothnian Bay.

Apart from two exceptions (1998 and 2001) I have been travelling in Scandinavia each year since 1997. Over recent years my visits to Scandinavia have become more frequent, with several trips undertaken there each year. In addition, I have been travelling to Svalbard since 2002. All trips to Scandinavia, especially those stays in the European Arctic have had a positive influence on me whilst gaining lots of experience during summer and winter trips.

I am often getting asked the question “What will the future bring?” I certainly do have ideas, of course, but nevertheless I am often changing plans, especially when alternatives sound more convincing. Therefore it may be worth while looking now and then at www.polar-images.de or www.polar-images.com, where I am planning to present upcoming travels in the category ”News”. The images listed on the website are intended to show the fascination presented by such landscapes. One who has experienced a sunset and its intensive colours within northern Scandinavia or even in the clear atmosphere of the Arctic, knows how difficult it is to illustrate these colours in pictures – this applies also for the soft pastels often to be seen shortly after sunset.

All images presented on the homepage have been taken in nature – with some exceptions, like the pictures taken in museums. Those who have travelled in Scandinavia or the Polar Regions before will understand the tight combination of my interests. I am taking pictures not only in unique locations, but also being at school I have a responsibility for the documentation of life and events happening there.
